My name is Claes Källarsson and ckck.org is my personal portfolio. I currently reside in Karlskrona, Sweden, where I'm a design student in the digital media program at Hyper Island.

As a designer I'd like to think of myself as a jack of all trades. I enjoy and find inspiration in all forms of design, be it print, interactive, typography or moving images to name some. If you were to ask me what my designer heart beats most passionately for though, I'd have to say type design, identity/branding and print. I hope to be able to work with as many different forms of design as possible in the future though, not just one or the other. I recently fell in love with photography as well, in a major way that I never expected, and I'd love to somehow be able to work that into a career within graphic design.

My proudest accomplishment as a designer is having conceived the Font Aid charity project. It was created to bring type designers together for a worthy cause to help those in need, and so far Font Aid has been done on three separate occasions. While I'm no longer personally in charge of it (it's currently in the care of SoTA, The Society of Typographic Aficionados), I'm very proud to have started something that so many others have responded so positively to.

I'm available for internship anywhere in the world from August 2008 until March 2009.

Newsreel

A 15 second “newsreel” that I made the first time I used Adobe After Effects.

L’Albero Verde

L’Albero Verde Wine

Wine label design made as part of a school assignment. The typeface is custom-made.

Thinking Made Visual Poster

Thinking Made Visual Poster

Personal work. I made this as a submission for Veerle Pieters’ “What is Graphic Design?” competition in February 2008. Instead of trying to visualize what graphic design is (since it is so many things, and I didn’t want to resort to clichés) I opted to use a quote by my favourite designer Saul Bass instead who put it simply and elegantly. My poster came in 11th place to boot, and I even got some sweet prizes!

The Sound of Music Poster

Sound of Music Poster

School assignment to design a poster for the musical. The only restriction was that we could only use Times and Avant Garde for typefaces. The idea to use birds came from the original movie poster where Julie Andrews looks like a mother bird keeping the children under her wings.

The Art of Saul Bass Poster

The Art of Saul Bass Poster

School assignment to create something, in my case a poster, about a designer who inspires us. I picked Saul Bass, whose iconic work in film and identity served as the basis for this poster that showcases of some of his best work.

Stalag 17 Poster

Stalag 17 Poster

Personal work for one of my favourite films, inspired by Saul Bass’ aesthetic of singling out a key element from a film and using that as the basis for the film’s poster (like the jagged arm for The Man with the Golden Arm or the body outline for Anatomy of a Murder).

ckck Identity

Personal Identity

Since I have a love for logotypes, I’ve always enjoyed toying with ideas for a personal logotype. I finally settled on the snowflake as it represents my origin (northern Sweden, which is cold and snowy in the winter) and it’s my initials put together. On the right are some other personal logotypes I’ve made, all based on my initials CK.

fuelfonts Identity

fuelfonts Identity

fuelfonts is my off-and-on-and-off-again type foundry. I’m currently in the slow process of revamping it with a graphical profile that should in some way connect with my personal identity (it’ll use the same colour schemes, except for the blue instead of red). None of these are final designs, they are all very much on the concept stage and works in progress.

Seesaw Typeface

Seesaw

A work in progress based on custom type from a film poster from the early 60s.

Mireille Neon Typeface

Mireille Neon

Based on typography on a French poster from the 70s. Work in progress.

Repertoire Gothic Typeface

Repertoire Gothic

Very much a work in progress, there aren’t even any lowercase letters yet.

Skopunkten E-commerce Site

Skopunkten

I served as art director for this e-commerce concept for Skopunkten, a Swedish shoe store chain. The project was aimed at showing them the possibilities of using new technology on the web, as well as revamping their visuals.

Busybee RIA Interface

Busybee RIA Interface

I designed this interface for a Rich Internet Application to be done with Adobe Air for a business idea called Busybee, a “digital office” application aimed towards small business owners to help them organize their businesses.

Volvo Redesign

Volvo Redesign

School assignment to redesign Volvo’s logotype. I wanted a clean break from their current logotype as it is a bit outdated and unclear (I think most think of it as only the symbol for “male”). As Volvo is world renowned for their safety, I chose a shield to symbolize their focus on safety. I toyed around with more advanced concepts (some that can be seen on the right) but ultimately went for a simple V-shape within the shield.

Seven-Eleven Redesign

Seven-Eleven Redesign

School assignment to redesign Seven-Eleven’s logotype. I wanted to keep the widely recognizable 7, but also incorporate the 11 into it, as well as update the rather bland colour scheme they currently use. From the left and then clockwise: The main logotype, an alternate logotype (similar to one they have now) and the marquee version.

Il Calamaro Identity

Il Calamaro Identity

School assignment to create an identity and graphical profile for a (fictional) restaurant.
